Searching
QuickSearch, MetaSearch, searching databases, problems
Choose "Search" in the menu.
QuickSearch is a default option, also MetaSearch is available. There is no difference in resources to search. All of the databases are separated into few groups (called QuickSets), which you can choose from.
By MetaSearch you can perform more advanced searches (e.g. choosing only certain resources in the group to search, category), refine search, and display search history.
Both MetaSearch and QuickSearch enable Simple or Advanced searching. Use Advanced Search to build more targeted searches (using the Boolean operators, specify appropriate record field to searching).
When searching certain resource, click on Find Database or Find e-Journal in the menu. You can also Locate a resource through MetaSearch.

______________________________________________________________________________Search tips
Search for one or more words. Use the Boolean operators to construct a multiple-word query. When using OR and NOT, use Advanced Search. Put the words in entry boxes and choose the operator from drop-down list.
Examples:
optics AND electronics (results contain both optics and electronics)
optics OR electronics (results contain at least one word of these, only optics, only electronics, both optics and electronics)
optics NOT electronics (results contain optics and not electronics)
Searching is not case sensitive. Use punctuation (e.g. wedges in Czech, umlauts). Word order is no object. Author names may be used in any format.
Examples:
Jan Novák
You can enter: Jan Novák; Novák, Jan; jan novák; novák jan
Use interrogation mark (?) for truncation (or stemming). Thus you can replace 0, or more characters (letters).
Example:
architect?
Search for: architect, architects, architecture, architectural
Searching for exact phrase is not supported.
ISSN and ISBN must include all punctuation. Type the number without prefix.
When typing a year of publication, you can use ? for truncation. Searching for range of years is not supported.
Example:
199?
Search for: all works published in 90's (1990-1999).
Avoid typing articles (the, a), pronouns, conjunctions, prepositions, and particles (stop words) to get more relevant results.

Search problems
Databases are sometimes not available due to their maintenance, system failure, or low number of licences. If the connection is not established in 60 seconds, the notice "Suspend" will appear. Note that we are not responsible for such technical problems; our aim is to intermediate searches within remote resources.
No registered activity for a long time in Vyhledávač TECH cause forwarding to Uniform Information Gateway, and you will find yourself in Vyhledávač UIG (Uniform Information Gateway Search). To return to TECH, click on Vyhledávač in the menu.
If you want to search another Czech gateway, UIG, MUS, ART, KIV, end your session by clicking on
